Silverdale Parish Church. Silverdale lies among limestone country at the very northern end of Lancashire and includes some of the most beautiful scenery in the county. Two hundred years ago there was just a few scattered farmsteads but the village became a sort of resort in the 19th century - opened in part by the railway line built in 1857. The area including Silverdale and nearby Arnside was declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1972. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds' reserve at Leighton Moss is also an area of preserved habitat visited by thousands of people each year. |
