Photographer's Diary

16th June - University, Galgate House Building and Town

It was to be a quick sortie. I had been waiting for the weather to change for a while, and at last it did. With sun shining and the students still on campus, I dashed to the university at lunch time. Sure enough the square was full. Blagging my way into one building I found a window I could shoot from and got a good general picture. One academic caught me and remarked "I'll not sign a model release you know" before finding out whether this was a joke or not I smiled and moved on. I found the local MP talking to what I thought might be a great audience but the room was empty. Later I found him on a bench with a handful of students. I took a picture and reminded him I needed to talk to his daughter.

I grabbed some pictures of students going into exams, most of which didn't care much for me or my pictures. Then on to Galgate to catch my brother in law building the house. He had gone early to play golf - lucky man, I shot the house and went to town. My main mission was to get permission from one of the big pubs to take pictures at the Euro 2000 match against Germany. I was turned down by the Walk About but welcomed by the Friary and Firkin. "This is the place to be" I was told in no uncertain terms. I got pictures of the town and the bridge and I returned home.
