The By Pass Route
I had been venturing out on several occasions when the weather was fine to trace
the route of the proposed By pass route. My bike was the best way to travel
and I followed the canal and lanes to try and find the route given to me by
a Green Councillor on a photocopied map. It actually turned out to be far simpler
than expected. Just follow the huge Pylons.
I had imagined a beautiful valley landscape that was to be scarred by a new
dual carriage way, but in fact the damage was already done by huge power cables
running from the Power Station at Heysham. The only point of sadness was where
the road crossed the canal twice before it was due to meet the Ellel roundabout.
I shot some extra pictures at the canal harbour at Galgate and cycled home.
