Photographer's Diary
Friday 13th October Christ Church Primary School, Carnforth
- Book Day
"You know this is not a normal day" all the teachers kept telling
me. But it was a normal day, the children were just asked to dress up as characters
from their favourite book. This was an annual event and something like this
would happen every half term. I had first thought to photograph a school closer
to home, but Mary Frankland (the organiser of the Children's Music festival)
had kept asking me if her school could be the chosen one. I felt no reason not,
and given the other schools all were a bit unsure I thought I would use the
enthusiasm, rather than fight it. It could not have worked out better.
Children's photography had always been my strength and I felt very much at home,
wandering the playground or class room getting the pictures I needed. The costumes
made it more interesting still and a great chance of a strong picture. They
came one after another and I felt satisfied enough by lunch time I took a drive
into Silverdale and Yealand to get some autumnal landscapes.
At the end of the day a Parents coffee event and football training allowed me
to finish off. The weather was fine all day.
