Photographer's Diary
On Wednesday night I heard of a children's concert in the Town Hall. It was in passing as my Brother in law had failed to turn up to a Rovers game due to his daughters involvement. I inquired about the following night and found it was to be repeated but I could not get time off work. Finally I made a frantic call on Friday morning to be greeted with the good news that the final performance would be this evening. Calling from school to school I finally found someone who could give me someone else's number, who gave me someone else's number who was delighted for me to come and take pictures.
Meanwhile as the weather looked fine I called my local mechanic and asked if I could take some pictures of him at work. He was a little unsure but agreed in the end, and I set off into town. By the time I reached him, he was out testing a car, so I walked into town to pick up some films. By sheer coincidence I came across Ken Yost hauling up some stonework onto the roof of a house in Dalton Square he was renovating. "It's a great view up there Dave" he greeted me and before long I was up there and taking pictures of the team at work.
Over tea break I was collared by Billy the labourer. He had been involved in the rebuilding of Folly Gallery when I was in charge and remembered my travelling. "been anywhere nice recently ?" he asked. Before I had a chance to reply he broke into a lengthy monologue about his recent trip to Canada. I had a great affection for Billy he was a very genuine person with an energetic personality.
Walking back to Dave's garage I rejoiced in my fate and hoped to get another good set of images. Dave was busy but talkative. His marriage had recently broken up and he spent much of the time we had together talking about his problems. Most of them centred around money as his previous partner was demanding a large share of his profits to help bring up their child. The pictures were simple but I was sure I had something worthwhile.
