Photographer's Diary
Friday 18th August - Nazareth House Old People's Home
This was meant to work in tandem with the children's home but things rarely
work out the way you might hope. It was a fine day and I started by going for
a meeting at the prison - setting this one up was going to take some time. Moving
on to the old people's home I met the nurse in charge and was given freedom
of the house. There was very little going on so I moved outside to catch the
good weather. A solitary old lady waited for lunch time, sitting on a bench
with two ducks hiding beneath her. The picture could have been a classic but
the light was wrong.
I moved in to photograph lunch, but found little of interest. I chatted to staff
and some of the residents who were all very interested in the project.
The Doctor caught me, he was now a resident I had known some years ago, and
we discussed family news and the fate of my poor father in law. I went over
to the children's home for a break and returned later to find much the same
pictures. It was suggested I return later when some activities were in progress.
I did so two hours on and found three ladies playing scrabble I made the picture
and found a room, before returning home.
