Ray Edmondson shrimp fishing in Morecambe Bay. Morecambe Bay has been a rich source of food for generations. At high tide its waters cover an area of approximately 195 square miles (314 sq kms) and small fishing boats have exploited this area (and coastal waters outside the Bay) confident that they were never far from land. Many sorts of fish were caught but in the 19th century the Bay became famous for its shrimps, the mainstay of the trawler fleet. |
