General Information
During the year 2000 D J Clark built a visual record of the Lancaster &

feature in the pictures. The project was conducted in association with Lancaster
Museum and has been archived for future generations to look back at the district
at the turn of the new Millennium. For more information on the project visit

Photographer's Diary
Sunday 10th December - St Thomas' Church
Slightly hung over I scrambled from my bed at 9 AM, made apologies to my friends
crashed out around the house and disappeared down to Church. I was aware that
there was a strong charismatic movement in the City and one particular church
was making good. As Churches struggled to fill the pues they were slowly closing
down and converting to theme pubs, and Indian restaurants. St Thomas's was different.
They were seeking planning permission to expand as they could not fit everyone
in.
I arrived half an hour early - I got the time wrong, so I wandered and took
some pictures of the band in rehearsal and what I presume was the treasurer
collecting some subs with his pocket computer. As it started people continued
to drift in. I was introduced and allowed to wander. It was funky, in fact it
rocked as the band played and the people praised. I found myself singing along
and tapping my feet.
The sermon went on a while but the other ideas of sitting meeting with those
around I found interesting. The communion was short and sweet, I partook. And
then the Kids were allowed to dance and sing as the band struck up again. It
was a wonderful experience and I found myself vowing to return with Maggie.
I had been invited to two more services, but had originally thought one would
be enough. I went back and photographed at the 6.30 and then at the 9 PM. The
last included coloured lights, back projections etc. It was fun and it was real.
