Photographer's Diary
Warton Stock Car Races: beginning to loose hope of a wasted afternoon, as I approached the races I realised this was going to be good. I had set aside an hour but spent an hour and a half. Walking round the track on a sunny but cool afternoon, I shot picture after picture.
The loudspeakers echoed "Someone has reported a lost Rotwieler, if you see it please report it to an official". I was left with the choice of continuing my wanderings and risk the dog or move to the centre of the track and take my chances with the cars. I took the latter.
This was a charged occasion, full of enthusiasts from all over the country meeting at the edge of the land to enjoy a sport many would love to try. I knocked on the commentators door and entered for a chat and a picture. He explained the complex handicap system and methods of how they know who is winning. It all seemed fair and no one looked upset. Perhaps a little too much flag waving for me but it made a great picture.
