Photographer's Diary
14 December - Lancaster Cathedral
Again by chance I heard of this play. I had phoned a prospective girlfriend
of one of my students on his behalf, and was told she was not able to meet him
as she was involved in this play. I phoned the head teacher straight away and
then the Cathedral to get permission to photograph. I arrived early and managed
to get the keys to the organ loft. Once in place I took a few frames and then
hurried downstairs as the school secretary had warned me the play was only 20
minutes long.
It was a time for parents to be proud as the children sang and read out loud
as the audience sat and looked on. The customary tearful breakdown of one child
took place about half way through the first act, rescued by a sympathetic teacher.
I waited to the end and then hanged out at the cresh in the hope an angel or
shepherd might pass by. They did and I got some pictures.
