Watching the Clayton Golf Trophy, Heysham Golf Club. The north-west coast of England is famous for its links golf courses. Royal Birkdale and Lytham St Anne's, two venues for the British open, are just a few miles down the coast. Many of the courses were started by Scotsman working on the railways at the end of the 19th century who found the rough land close to the beaches did not need much alteration to make a great golf course. The Clayton Trophy is an annual competition between the three largest clubs in the district, Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham. The building in the background is Heysham Nuclear power station which now dominates the courses views. |
