Photographer's Diary
The Clayton Trophy - Sunday 13th August
It had been a beautiful morning, which I spent trying to tidy the house and
my office which was slowly sinking beneath a tide of paper. I might have predicted
the rain that started as I stepped onto the golf course at Heysham. With the
trusty umbrella stuffed down my shirt I went on to photograph this annual event
unfold.
The power station loomed above the third fairway as golfers did battle and cursed
themselves for every poor shot. I found some friends and wandered with them,
I had hoped to stay on to record a dramatic finish, but Lancaster were walking
away with it, partly after one Heysham player took 16 shots on a par five -
all shots counted.
Additional Information
The Clayton trophy is an annual golf competition held between Heysham, Lancaster and Morecambe Golf clubs. All players play off scratch and everyshot counts. It is highly competitive and seen as the highlight of the golfing year in the region.
