Start of the annual Galgate duck Race. The race is held once a year to raise money for children's events in the village. Each community member pays one pound to enter a duck into the race. The plastic ducks are then thrown into the river Condor and allowed to float round an oxbow to a finish line about a mile away. The silk spinning mill behind, was the main employer in the village up until 1971 when it was closed. These days many of the residents have associations with the University that sits not far from the village. |
