Photographer's Diary
2nd February - Fire at Armitage Publicity
I was just getting ready to go to bed when Maggie came home. "It's all happening in town" she told me. I had prepared an emergency camera bag for such occasions. It was thrust into my car and I sped off to Parliament Street. Arriving there I found Fire engines, police cars a bit of tape and the odd passer-by. I shot a few frames and then realised my film was too slow. I uprated and then shot for fun. There was not too much to photograph but once I had uprated I might as well finish the film.
Armitage publicity was the home of a printing company which had run into financial problems and closed. The place had since been occupied by squatters and had a short life expectancy. Mummers of "insurance job" could be heard by the bystanders now cynical of fires in disused property.
I left after ten minutes.
