People at the Foot of the Cross annual Good Friday service starts on the steps of the Town Hall, Lancaster. The hall was built by Lord Ashton in 1909 and originally housed the Town Hall Committee offices, the police and fire stations as well as a public hall of entertainment. It was designed by Mountford who also designed The Old Bailey in London. Today the building still houses the entertainment hall and some city council offices.
