Photographer's Diary
July 12th - Graduation at the University
Tuesday the 11th was depressing today was much better. Yesterday I called both the University and Dukes playhouse with a request to take pictures for the project. Both said No and that was that. I mounted a campaign, faxing friends and asking other people who might have some influence and then hoped for the best. By 10 AM today, both had changed their minds. I thought this would be visual and I was not disappointed, a campus full of funny hats and long gowns. I strolled around and shot at will before moving on to a ceremony at the Great Hall. Princess Alexander was to preside and security was tight.
I shot from the balcony keenly watched by a security guard who declined my request to move about quietly. I knew nothing too strong was to come of the event so I left and found a group picture being taken on the field. The photographer was brave enough to shoot a 5 x 4 plate. As the ceremony finished, I moved to catch the princess walking out. After the huge security operation in the hall she moved freely outside, I got a couple of pictures and got bored - I moved on.
