Leighton Hall, Last Night of the Proms. Yealand Redmayne, near Carnforth. Originally built as the country home of the Gillow Family (famous cabinet makers) in the 18th Century, the mansion remains a private home. Twice a year the residents host traditional festivals of classical music and fireworks open to the public. An export from the prom series held annually at the Albert Hall in London, at the end of the last concert in the series (The Last Night of the Proms) a series of patriotic British songs are played and the audience waves the Union Jack. |
