6th August - Water and Light Festival
During my friends visit I had managed a couple of days to work for the Probation
service at Wymot Prison and community service in Blackpool but nothing on the
project. I was angry that I would miss "Boney M" and the fireworks
on the Saturday night but pleased I could get back in time for the Sunday Finale.
As it turned out the photographers who were there on Saturday all returned on
the Sunday as the Fireworks had been washed out but a low cloud base.
I wandered around the prom and the music tent occasionally crossing to the stage.
Maggie was with me and it was becoming hard to photograph. I shot what I could
in the evening light and then started to make plans for the fireworks.
I had envisaged people in the foreground and the fireworks bursting in the distance
but when I came to set up, the crowds placed themselves right under the fireworks.
I moved into the bay and with the water out, I found myself wandering further
and further into the bay. The first bang echoed across the sand and I dropped
my gear and began to shoot. It took me over an hour to get home, they estimated
a good 20-30 thousand people.
